The NBA season is underway and 20-year old rookie V.J. Edgecombe had an Opening Night that wowed fans with 34 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists as the 76ers beat the Celtics in Boston, 117-116. His 34 points set a franchise record for most points in a debut, breaking the record of 30 by Alan Iverson in 1996. Ironically, VJ was the 2024 Allen Iverson National High School Player of the Year. Edgecombe was born in the Bahamas, moved to America when he was in the 9th grade, went on to star at Baylor and became the overall No. 3 pick in the 2025 draft. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing his name mentioned a lot – which leads us to the question: What does V.J. stand for?
