Derrick Henry continues to build his Pro Football Hall of Fame credentials – this past weekend he rushed for 2 touchdowns in the Ravens 30-16 win over the Bears in Baltimore. On our recent V.J. Edgecombe post we mentioned how the No. 3 pick in the NBA draft scored the 3rd most points in an NBA debut game – with 34 as his 76ers beat the Celtics in Boston 117-116.
Who holds the NBA record for most points in a debut game? The answer, like lots of NBA questions, is Wilt Chamberlain who scored 43 at Madison Square Garden when the visiting Philadelphia Warriors beat the New York Knicks, 118-109 back in 1959. Wilt also grabbed 28 rebounds in the game. But our TWIST question deals with Frank Selvy, the player who scored 35 points in his NBA debut, second most in NBA history.

The NBA season is underway and 20-year old rookie V.J. Edgecombe had an Opening Night that wowed fans with 34 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists as the 76ers beat the Celtics in Boston, 117-116. His 34 points set a franchise record for most points in a debut, breaking the record of 30 by Alan Iverson in 1996. Ironically, VJ was the 2024 Allen Iverson National High School Player of the Year. Shohei Ohtani became the first player in MLB history with 3 homers and 10 strikeouts as a pitcher, and lots of people are calling it the greatest game ever.
