Crosby Sets Pens Points Record

Congrats to Sidney Crosby on passing Mario Lemieux for most points in Pittsburgh Penguins history. Lemieux held the record since 1989 when he broke the record held by Penguins Hall of Famer Rick Kehoe.

Here’s video of Mario congratulating Crosby who lived with the Lemieux family when Sidney began his pro career as an 18 year old when he was the overall No. 1 draft pick.

With 1,724 career points, Crosby is now 8th on the NHLs all-time list. Which Penguins player ranks second on the NHLs all-time points list, trailing only Wayne Gretzky?

Judge vs Raleigh – If I had my druthers…

Lots of debate on the internet as to whether Cal Raleigh should’ve edged out Aaron Judge for AL MVP because in addition to his offensive prowess he also was outstanding playing the demanding position of catcher where he didn’t have one passed ball all season long.

If I had my druthers I would’ve loved to have seen Judge and Raleigh be co-MVPs as both were deserving the award. And that leads me to the question – What players were co-MVPs in 1979, the only time in MLB history where two players shared the regular season MVP?

Dave Parker and Gary Carter

Willie Stargell and Keith Hernandez

Steve Garvey and George Foster

Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton

Wilt & Frank

On our recent V.J. Edgecombe post we mentioned how the No. 3 pick in the NBA draft scored the 3rd most points in an NBA debut game – with 34 as his 76ers beat the Celtics in Boston 117-116.

Who holds the NBA record for most points in a debut game? The answer, like lots of NBA questions, is Wilt Chamberlain who scored 43 at Madison Square Garden when the visiting Philadelphia Warriors beat the New York Knicks, 118-109 back in 1959. Wilt also grabbed 28 rebounds in the game. But our TWIST question deals with Frank Selvy, the player who scored 35 points in his NBA debut, second most in NBA history.

The NBA season is underway and 20-year old rookie V.J. Edgecombe had an Opening Night that wowed fans with 34 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists as the 76ers beat the Celtics in Boston, 117-116. Check out the highlights if you haven’t seen them yet and you’ll be wowed too by the 20 year old rookie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztRw0pWclaY

Edgecombe was born in the Bahamas, moved to America when he was in the 9th grade, went on to star at Baylor and became the overall No. 3 pick in the 2025 draft. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing his name mentioned a lot – which leads us to the question: What does V.J. stand for?
